Christmas Campaign 15% discount!

For the first time, we invite you to an exciting voyage to the very heart of the whiskey nation of Scotland. In Kirkwall you can join a guided tour through the famous and award winning 18th-century Highland Park malt-whiskey distillery, a tour that concludes with “a wee dram or two”. There will also be a whiskey master class on board the ship (order separately)! Experience the amazing landscape of the Orkney, it´s rich history and world famous malt whiskey and life on board Norway´s biggest sailing ship!

You must be at least 20 years of age to attend this voyage.

Scotland is world famous for its whiskey, and over the centuries, a truly unique single malt whisky has been developed on the Orkney Islands. One of the best known distilleries is the award winning Highland Park. On a guided tour inside these historic walls, you´ll learn all the basics of malt whiskey. On board the ship you can also join a whiskey master class by Martin Markvardsen, Senior Brand Ambassador at Highland Park (order separately).

But the journey in the footsteps of the Vikings across the North Sea also offers many other great experiences!

Nature and seamanship

On board Norway's largest sailing, out on the open sea, you´ll get close to the stunning beauty of the ocean. Divided into watch teams you´ll med the helm, set the sails and sleep in hammocks, side by side with your fellow trainees. Many of our trainees get a "kick" of climbing high up in the rigging, but if you are more comfortable on the deck, that is of course totally okay! With no internet coverage at sea, there will also be plenty of time to relax, enjoy the nice food and chill out with the others. You will be joined by both wiskey enthusiasts and connoisseurs, so this is a nice opportunity to make new friendships and acquaintances.

Beautiful and historic Orkney Islands

Two days at sea is a refreshing warm-up for your stay in Kirkwall. The wild and beautiful green landscape of Orkney Islands almost takes your breath away with its rough beauty. If you prefer history rather than whiskey, the possibilities are almost endless. You´ll find many ruins and historic castles and buildings, with the venerable St. Magnus Cathedral from 1137 as one of the most famous. If you rent a car it is easy to explore some of the other 70 islands that belong to the region.

Kirkwall

Kirkwall is located on the island Mainland and is a charming and historic city with about 7000 inhabitants. The many pubs, often with live music, offers many nice and social get togethers in the company of both fellow trainees and the locals. A relatively small network of streets allows you to quickly get an overview, and one can choose from many different restaurants, museums and shops. Here you can also shop for some of Kirkwall's signature products that, in addition to whiskey, include kashmir and scottish crafts. You´ll find a lot of exciting and historical architecture in Kirkwall, which is the largest city and administration center on Orkney.

The legacy of the Vikings

As a Norwegian, one feels very welcome on Orkney. Already in the 700s, the first Norwegians appeared here, and in 875 Harald Hårfagre annexed both the Orkney and the Shetland Islands. This dynasty was ruled almost uninterrupted by Norwegian Viking earls for 600 years, and the Norse culture and history remain an important part of the island´s identity. On a stroll through Kirkwall you will find streets named after both Viking kings and our present Norwegian royal couple. Many "orcadians", as the natives call themselves, speak about stronger ties to Norway than to Scotland and the United Kingdom.

Homebound

After two eventful days in Kirkwall, we turn the ship home to Norway. Now it's even more fun, because we learned a lot about sailing on the trip to Scotland! Together, we will put out two thousand square meters of sail by hand! The experience of teamwork and life on board creates memories that last. You will never forget a Whiskey Voyage with Statsraad Lehmkuhl. We can promise you that!

Welcome on board to an exciting, educational and enjoyable trip!
